Birthday Baking

It was hubby’s birthday this week and I made the silly mistake of asking what kind of cake he’d like.   Sticky date was his reply.  This just happens to be his favourite dessert and possibly the only cake he bakes (he is a chef so the pressure was on for me).  Of course I headed to google for help and found a recipe on taste.com that looked good.  You can check it out here.  I always like to see a photo of what it should look like!

After nearly forgetting half the ingredients at the supermarket I got home and started baking.  I decided to make muffins rather than a cake as I wasn’t sure a whole cake would get eaten in one night and it made it much easier to heat and serve.  They were a success, they turned out great.  Everyone said they tasted yummy and even impressed hubby with one of his favs (he quite liked the caramel sauce).
What’s your favourite cake recipe?
Happy weekend

2014, A New Year

2014 has arrived and with it comes lots of changes, good and exciting changes. The biggest happening within the month as we get ready for our second little bubba to arrive!

So I’ve been thinking a lot about where I want Ladybugs & Daisychains to head this year and I’m pretty excited about it.  Of course there will still be clutches and bags being made and hopefully a few market appearances later in the year.  While I may not get much time at the sewing machine early on I will be blogging here more.

I also plan to sew more for me and my little family this year too.

Happy 2014,

The Good Stuff 2013

Here’s some of the good stuff from 2013!

First of all our little monkey turned 1 and discovered his love of cake!  That’s my boy.

I joined in some swaps – a sweet pouch swap organised by Ros at Sew Delicious & a little pincushion swap organised by Lisa at Sweet Little Pretties

I finally made some time to sew something for me and I love it.  Its the Jamie Dress by Sis Boom.  I picked up this fabric from a Spotlight sale for $3 a metre, BARGAIN!

I tried out some new bags using Melly & Me’s patterns and loved the results

I also went to one of Nicole Mallalieu’s classes and learnt so much, even though I was a little star struck (she’s one of my favourite bag designers).  Totally loved it and worth every cent.  It was one on zippers, lots of zips in this tote so I thought I should keep it!

This year we added some clutches to our bag range in 3 different sizes.  (the 150mm frame using Nicole Mallalieu’s pattern, the others based on this)

I also put my hand to some quilting but only for me & family.  This is certainly more of a challenge than making a bag.

And not long before Christmas I did my first market for the year.  I hope to be back at Maribyrnong Makers Market next year.  It was a great day.

And the most exciting news was finding out we were pregnant again!

Happy New Years Eve,

Time Flies when you’re having fun.

Hi, just checking in.  Things have got away from me of late and I just haven’t had the chance to write about whats been happening….

I’ve been busy getting our new clutches up and running and they are proving very popular especially with spring carnival approaching.  They come in 2 sizes – “Fleurette”, our 150mm clutch purse which will fit phone, keys, cash & lippy and “Fleur”, our 200mm clutch bag which is that little bit longer to fit your sunnies in too.

Our Christmas stockings have also been popular again this year.  I love Christmas so really enjoy playing with these lovely fabrics.  Here’s a couple I sent out last week.  Get your orders in quickly though as I will not be taking orders after 15th November.

We have also added these to our hand-made.com.au shop just in time for the festive season.

Well thats it for now.  I’m off on a sewing retreat this weekend and looking forward to meeting some of the Sewing Sisterhood girls in real life.

Have a great week

Wednesday Workings

I’ve been working on a few customs and our Spring/Summer release over the past few weeks.  Here’s a look at the work in progress.

I also was lucky enough to get into one of Nicole Mallalieu’s classes at the last minute.  It was the zippers for bags class and it was soooo good.  Nikki has so many tips that she passes on and she really did make zips easy!

I’m also working on a pretty bag for a bag swap.  Will show you when its got a bit more structure.
